Swimmer Competencies
Novice
- Can swim a minimum 25m unassisted without major difficulty (no grabbing the wall and not barely finishing)
- Can tread water for at least 20 seconds
- Competition age group: Novice
Junior
- Can swim 100m non-stop
- Confident with freestyle/front crawl and backstroke
- Starting to learn breaststroke and butterfly
- Competition age group: Division 1-2
Intermediate
- Can swim 200m non-stop
- Competent with the basics of all 4 strokes
- Competent with starts and turns
- Competition age group: Division 2-3
Seniors
- Can swim 200m+ non-stop without difficulty
- Confident all 4 strokes (minimal experience with butterfly is fine)
- Confident with starts and turns
- Division 4 and up
General
Coaches also take the following into consideration:
- Age;
- Technical ability;
- Attitude and work ethic (ability and willingness to follow instructions);
- General fit within the composition of the existing group;
- Overall maturity.
Please note that these competencies are estimates only. The Club and Coaches reserve the right to reassign swimmers to a different group to ensure swimmers is placed in the best group for them to succeed.
