The Juan de Fuca Royals are part of the BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA), which includes over 60 clubs across British Columbia. The BCSSA supports a wide range of aquatic sports, including speed swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming. From its humble beginnings in 1958 with just three clubs, the association has grown to include over 60 clubs and 5,000 athletes today.
The Juan de Fuca Royals Summer Swim Club, located on the scenic West Shore of Victoria, BC, provides an exciting and enriching experience for swimmers ages 5 - 18. Our non-profit society, The Greater Victoria Aquatics Society (GVAS), has been providing training and competition opportunities for residents of Greater Victoria since 1993. With the exception of our coaches, this program has been successfully operated by parent volunteers – this spirit of volunteerism and participation is a core value of our program. Our program is shaped by professional coaches dedicated to fostering not only successful swimmers but also active, healthy individuals in an enjoyable environment.
Participants will refine their technique in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly as well as starts and turns - skills that offer both immediate and lifelong benefits beyond the pool. We welcome swimmers of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to competitive athletes. To join, swimmers must be able to complete 25 meters unassisted.
Our summer session runs from May to August, where the focus is on the competitive swim meet season. During the summer, competitive season participation both swimmer participation and parent volunteerism in as many swim meets as possible is strongly encouraged. From September to April we operate a winter maintenance program, where the focus is on maintaining and building on the progress made throughout the summer.
